Today most colors are chemically produced in large quantities from coal tars or aniline, oxygen, hydrogen, sulphur and many other organic and inorganic substances, giving a huge variety of many shades brighter than was possible in the past.
THE MEANINGS OF COLORS
Over the centuries has had many color meanings-many of them based on superstitions and many on the individual's actual physical reactions due to the Association of ideas, such as:
-Fire-red heat
Blue-Sky-water-Cool
Green-Grass-nature-peace
Gaiety-Sun-yellow
Viola-Shadow-mystery
HOT colors: red, red-orange, red-purple, yellow-orange, yellow-green and yellow are stimulating and exciting and seem to come forward or advance. When these colors are used in full intensity in large areas seem to make the crowd appear larger.
COLD blue colors: purple, blue, green, blue, and some shades of green and purple. These colors are more relaxing more exciting – used in large areas without any accents of warm colors may be too relaxing and also give a feeling of worthlessness or refusal. Cool colors seem to recede and give an effect of minimizing the mass. In general, elusive, quiet inconspicuous colors such as tones less intense, low value of secondary and tertiary colours or shades; and, the more intense the colour, the stronger or more bully you become.
Traditionally the colour of spring were pink and yellow green; summer-yellow, blue and green; autumn-orange and Brown; and winter-red and black.
RED indicates excitement, warmth, courage; and appeals to the most basic instincts.
BLUE indicates the distance, calm, truth and sincerity; and appeals to spiritual or intellectual aspects of personality.
GREEN is the color of nature and indicates the coldness, the young and the hope of eternal life. In hue, value and intensity, this is the most RESTful color without being too depressing.
Yellows and gold indicate Sun, merriment, honor and loyalty.
PURPLE indicates the mystery, pain, high rank, royalty:
VIOLET red indicates the luxury, elegance and sacrifice.
ORANGE indicates happiness, strength, stamina.
WHITE indicates the light, innocence, purity, faith, joy and glory.

DEVELOP THE SENSE OF COLOR
Each collection has a "new" color-in reality, this means that some particular tonality are used more often. The designers interested in creating clothes appealing in practice, however, will develop and use more colours tending to the wearer. Color should improve the quality of the natural color of skin, hair and eyes.
In general, the following can easily be observed:
Light colors appear lighter when placed next to dark colours.
Gray, combined with any color assumes a tinge of complement of that color, as for example: a grey used with blue gradient orange or have a cast, and a grey used with red feel like you have a greenish tinge. Any color looks brighter when placed next to its complement. In fact when placed next to each other at full strength will be displayed for combat or jump.
In the choice of colours for a costume is important to know if the garment will wear day or night, or will it be worn on both times, because the effect of light on color should be kept in mind.
ALL COLORS WILL APPEAR MORE INTENSE SEEN IN DAYLIGHT. Artificial light the same colors will be subdued. Candle-lit color will soften slightly illuminate the incandescent and fluorescent light will change the apparent hue.
AMBER lighting seem to make more intense yellow green, seems tinged yellow, blue purple very boring and slightly reddish.
Blue lights will dull green and yellow, blue to intensify, seemingly change red to purple.
UNDER the red light to almost red and yellow make green and blue will appear dull, while red is very intense.
SEEN under a light green yellow green and looks like almost all other colours very boring, except for the Green will be intensified.
Get a good understanding of color and will increase your ability to design well.
